We are in compliance! EPA NEWS

On August 19, 2013, EPA reviewed the completion of the shot curtain and the status of lead shot in the Santa Ana River and Santa Ana River Wolly Star Preserve.  Based on this review, including EPA’s observations that salvage activities have reduced the concentration of lead shot, EPA believes that there no longer is a federal interest in addressing existing lead contamination from the Redlands Shooting Park (“RSP”).  It is EPA’s understanding that the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the California Department of Toxic Substance Control and the California Regional Water Control Board concur that no further action is currently required to address existing lead shot in the Santa Ana River.

EPA may reassert a federal interest in response activity at any time if EPA deems it necessary to address the release of lead from the RSP to protect human health, welfare or the environment.  The Redlands Shooting  Park should continue to comply with the requirements of the Amendment of Conditional Use Permit from the City of Redlands, and the requirements for the recycling of lead pursuant to the California hazardous waste laws.  This can be coordinated with the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
